Project Goal: The goal of this research and design assignment was to investigate the Futura typeface, exploring its characteristics, history, and applications. The project aimed to create a comprehensive specimen sheet that visually and textually presents the findings, allowing viewers to understand the typeface's significance and personality traits. Experience: I began by conducting thorough research on Futura, delving into its design origins, historical context, and classification. I discovered that it was designed by Paul Renner in the 1920s, as part of the Bauhaus movement, emphasizing geometric shapes and modernism. I examined the various styles within the type family, such as Futura Bold and Futura Condensed, and considered its proposed uses in branding, advertising, and digital media. Outcome: The final specimen sheet showcased the Futura typeface prominently, featuring a well-organized report that highlighted its key characteristics and historical significance. The list of styles within the type family was clearly presented, and I included a relevant visual that complemented the design aesthetic of Futura.
