Goal: The goal of this project was to create a composition using both invented forms and pen tool tracings of organic shapes, focusing on spatial illusion and harmony between contrasting elements. The task was to produce two versions of the composition, each with a distinct mood achieved through the use of color and value, demonstrating duality in visual design. Experience: I began by generating abstract shapes in Illustrator without a predefined purpose, experimenting with arrangement and composition to establish a sense of depth. By manipulating scale, transparency, value, and cropping, I created spatial illusions that drew attention to both the foreground and background. I integrated organic shapes inspired by mushrooms, using the pen tool to trace and place them around and within the hard-edged forms. This interplay between geometric and organic shapes introduced rhythm and balance, enhancing the overall composition. For the first version, I used the complementary colors of green and purple to create a high-contrast mood. For the second, I applied an analogous trio of yellow-orange, red-orange, and red to create a more harmonious, yet dynamic mood. Both compositions played on the theme of duality—highlighting contrast through color schemes, while blending opposites like sharp and curved shapes. Outcome: The project resulted in two visually striking compositions, each expressing a different mood while maintaining a sense of spatial complexity.
